School & Nature Programme
〰️
School & Nature Programme 〰️
Educational School Tours and Nature Programme
In the summer of 2008, the Educational School Tours and Nature Programme was launched. It was part-funded by a kind donation from Dieter Mennekes, a Germany businessman. He paid for a gazebo (open air class room) and nursery for native plant restoration. The response was great from the schools that participated.
The students are given a guided tour through the gully, followed by a hands on nature based activity. Most of the students stay on for lunch to relax and enjoy their surroundings.
Welchman Hall Gully offers children the perfect environment to explore and discover nature. Today the environment is often portrayed as needing protecting, or a dangerous place, or as some far off distant place. In all those cases, it does nothing for children to love and appreciate nature, something many adults just did naturally growing up. The Nature Programme at the Gully puts the fun and enjoyment back into nature by letting children explore and discover the world around before they start worrying about protecting it.
Schools
An educational tour is provided by Welchman Hall Gully for 45 minutes followed by a 30-minute nature activity designed to coincide with what the students are learning in the classroom.

Adventure Park
〰️
Adventure Park 〰️
The Adventure Park was installed in the summer of 2016. It makes the Gully an even more exciting place for children to visit!
We have a kid friendly zip line which is about 80 feet long, a swing rope, tight rope and a tree house to chill out in.
There is a picnic table in the centre of the Adventure Park so adults can watch the children play while they relax, try some of our lovely fish cakes and enjoy a cold beer.
Domestic Animals

Domestic Animals 〰️
Domestic & Farm Animals at the Gully
All the birds love to be fed by hand as it seems their life work is food.
Chickens
There is no shortage of chickens or “yard fowls” as they are known in Barbados. Yard fowls are now becoming a thing of the past.
Once common in households for eggs, commercial chickens are becoming the norm now days.
These birds are quite smart, opportunists and a bit destructive, but fun to have around.
Guinea Fowl
Originally from Africa and not very common here, or once were on the sugar plantation, they are now part of the Gully family of birds. The species mating for life, or are serially monogamas. Here we have one male and 3 females. They are considered great watch dogs, by making a racket when strangers are around. You will often see the male guinea fowl pecking at chrome bumpers as if telling off his image.
Ducks
Not sure the origin of these ducks as they originally just wondered in and decided to make here their home.
Dogs
This is KD and Dusty, sisters and pets of the director of Welchman Hall Gully. If you see them, she is not far way.
Teddy Bear is the newest dog to join the family. All of the dogs come home everyday with the director.
